The Health Education Systems, Inc. (HESI) Entrance Exam Next Generation – Admissions (A2) is a standardized assessment designed to evaluate the academic readiness and critical thinking skills of students pursuing careers in the health sciences. At Odessa College, the HESI exam is a required component of the admissions process for all allied health programs, including Nursing and other select healthcare pathways. By measuring essential competencies in areas such as reading comprehension, math, anatomy and physiology, and the sciences, the HESI exam helps ensure that incoming students are well-prepared for the rigorous coursework and clinical training that lie ahead. Successful completion of the exam demonstrates a student’s commitment and readiness to excel both in the classroom and the healthcare profession.
Reservations may be made in person or by phone. Full payment of $81 is required to hold your reservation.
Exam Information All public institutions of higher learning in Texas require that incoming students document compliance with the Texas Success Initiative through an assessment or a qualifying exemption or waiver. The holistic advising and placement scale is designed to support and accelerate entry into college-ready coursework.
- Offered Monday – Thursday. Exam must start by 11:30 am.
- $20 OC Proctoring Fee + $61 HESI Exam Fee = $81 Total. Retest cost is the same.
- Reservations or walk-ins accepted.
- In person exams only, no virtual/online testing.
- Only 2 attempts can be made. A 30-calendar day waiting period must be between 1st and 2nd attempt.
- A basic 4 function calculator is available inside the exam.
- Exam must be completed once started.
- Scares are given to students after completing the exam.
- Tutoring is available through the LRC.
- The 4.5-hour OC HESI exam is customized for OC Allied Health Programs with the following
sections:
- Anatomy & Physiology 30 questions
- Grammar 55 questions
- Math 55 questions
- Reading Comprehension 55 questions
- Critical Thinking 25 questions
It is recommended students complete or be near completing the following courses before taking the exam as these courses cover content in the exam:
- ENGL 1301 Composition I
- MATH 1314 College Algebra
- BIOL 2401 Anatomy & Physiology I
- BIOL 2402 Anatomy & Physiology II

How to Prepare for the Exam
- Create an Evolve (Elsevier) Account at www.evolve.elsevier.com/cs/register.
- Cell phone is required to create the account.
- A code will be sent to your email, this will generate your username.
- Bring your valid ID, username, password, and debit/credit card ($81) on test day.
- Contact the OC Testing Center for a reservation.
