Odessa College’s FIRST6FREE FAQ:

  • Students qualify if they attend school in Ector County, homeschool students included.
  • Students who attend OC TECHS do not qualify for First6Free.
  • First6Free covers tuition costs, but not fees.
  • Unlike on-campus courses, online courses do not have fees.
  • First6Free does not cover textbook costs, but most textbook costs are minimal because of the OER initiative.
  • Current dual credit students do not qualify for First6Free, but once a dual credit student graduates from high school, their first course as an OC student will be free (First Class Free Scholarship).
  • There is no application or First6Free. If a high school student applies to OC, the initiative automatically applies.
  • After a dual credit student’s first 6 hours free, dual credit classes at OC are $150 per course. $150 is only the tuition cost.

Dual Credit is a program for high school Freshmen, Sophomores, Juniors, and Seniors to take college courses while in high school and receive credits for both high school graduation and a college degree. Dual Credit students could earn more than 40 hours of college credit by the time they graduate from high school.
