From Setback to Success
When Julien Martinez graduated from Permian High School in 2024, he had a clear plan
in mind: join the United States Air Force. But a knee injury from his high school
football days unexpectedly disqualified him from service. Faced with the challenge
of rethinking his path, Julien turned to a familiar source of inspiration: his father.
Julien’s dad, a military veteran who transitioned into the lineman field, spoke highly
of his work and the pride he found in the trade. Intrigued, Julien began researching
the profession and quickly discovered that it aligned perfectly with what he wanted
in a career: hands-on work, time outdoors, strong benefits, overtime potential, and
a reliable pathway for advancement.
Although he had no experience, Julien knew that enrolling in the Odessa College Lineman
Training Program would set him up for success. It offered him the opportunity to start
his career at a higher level and gain the practical skills he needed.
“I didn’t know anything about the tools or how hard the work is,” Julien said. “But
as I learned, it made me want to work more and work harder.”
As the program progressed, Julien realized he had found the right fit. He excelled
in his coursework, ultimately finishing in the top five of his class, a testament
to his dedication and work ethic. He credits much of his success to the instructors
who guided him throughout his training.
“They are almost like family,” he said. “OC really takes care of its students.”
Now, Julien is excited to begin his new position with Primoris Energy Services, taking
the next step in a career he knows will allow him to grow, thrive, and build a strong
future.
Looking ahead, Julien feels confident and motivated. He knows this is more than just
a job—it’s a long-term career where he can provide well for his family and continue
to push himself to new heights.
