For Carla Soria, education has been a journey of passion, persistence, and perfect timing.

Carla's academic path began earlier than most—she graduated from Permian High School at just 16 years old. Shortly after, in 2003, she enrolled at Odessa College to take her basic courses. Like many young students still discovering their path, she pivoted a few years later, finding a spark in Cosmetology. “It was something I really liked,” Carla said. She completed the program, earned her license, and launched her career doing what she enjoyed.

But Carla wasn’t done yet.

In 2012, she returned to Odessa College once more—this time for Massage Therapy. It was yet another passion turned profession. Reflecting on her journey, she laughed and said, “It’s like I come back every 10 years!” True to her word, in 2023, Carla returned to OC again—this time to pursue a degree in Photography.

This chapter has been one of her most challenging yet rewarding. While studying photography, Carla got married, cheered on her teenage daughter in high school, and welcomed her second daughter, Ximena, into the world. “It has been overwhelming,” she admitted, “but I communicated with my instructors to make sure I could complete my degree.”

Her dedication didn’t go unnoticed. Her instructors and classmates often stepped in to help with baby Ximena so Carla could focus on her classes and keep up with her work. “My teachers have been so helpful and understanding,” she said. “They really care and want you to succeed.”

And succeed she has.

In May, Carla Soria will graduate with her associate degree in Photography and launch her own photography studio—turning another passion into a professional reality. From cosmetology to massage therapy to photography, Carla’s story is a testament to lifelong learning and the power of doing what you love.

Congratulations, Carla—we can’t wait to see the world through your lens!
