Texas Mutual awards $100K for Safety Institute

Texas Mutual Insurance Company has awarded a $100,000 grant to Odessa College to fund workplace safety courses for employers, workers and the general public. Texas Mutual is the state’s leading provider of workers’ compensation insurance. They began this commitment to safety education at state colleges 20 years ago and has since awarded $7.6 million in safety education grants.

  • Veriforce Safeland
    • Our PEC Safeland course is an employee training that covers workplace safety hazards. While it is not a comprehensive training course, it can provide basic safety training and awareness to employees.
  • Veriforce Safeland Refresher
    • This training course is designed for employees who have previously completed the PEC Safeland course. Employees will receive a refresher course on basic safety and workplace safety.
  • Medic First Aid/CPR
    • Trainees will receive comprehensive training on how to perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation and perform basic first aid practices. Trainees will learn how to use an automated external defibrillator and protect themselves and others from bloodborne pathogens. This is a hands-on training with activities and exercises designed to provide real-life experience. 
  • H2S Clear
    • H2S clear is based on ANSI and Railroad Commission requirements for employees who may be exposed to any concentration of H2S. The training covers exposure limits, properties, characteristics of the gas, symptoms of exposure, monitoring, and the necessary respiratory protections.

  • Building the Basin
    • RigPass with Basin United - $50
      • The program will use virtual reality, videos, & interactive sessions to explore life-saving actions & the responsibilities that each individual has as a safety leader. Participants will leave the course more confident & educated in recognizing deadly hazards on worksites. By building core leadership skills, participants will be empowered to speak up to protect themselves & their co-workers from significant injury or death.
    • Safety Leadership - $50
      • The course will use interactive sessions and multimedia to help supervisors practice their leadership skills in order to build and sustain a healthy safety culture and awareness of life-saving actions at their worksites. Participants will be educated on advanced leadership principles and human performance. They will be empowered to become transformative leaders within their organization, with relentless focus on protecting their workers from significant injury or death.

    • Family & Friends - Free to Businesses & ISDs
    • BLS - $30 Businesses, $15 ISDs
    • Heart Saver - $30 Businesses, $15 ISDs
