The Teacher Education Program of Odessa College is offering an Associate Degree in the field of Child Development and Child Care. These two areas will prepare prospective students to pursue their bachelor's degree at a university, as well as attain immediate employment in childcare facilities.

Courses under these programs are flexible, and thus, offered via online and face-to-face (daytime, weekends, evenings). We recognize that students work and have other responsibilities. In line with this, these courses are customized to meet the needs of students so they can pursue their studies while juggling other responsibilities.


Levels of Credentials:

Level 1 - Child Development Associate (CDA I)

Level 2 - Child Care / Preschool Assistant Teacher (CDA II)

Associate degree of Applied Science in Child Development (AAS)


How to Enroll

Step 3: Get your Bacterial Meningitis shot

Step 4: Official Transcripts

Step 5: Testing - TSIA, ACT, SAT, or STAAR

Step 6: Meet with your success coach to discuss courses required for the Associate’s in Child Development degree program.


Program Scholarships

Scholarship funds are available for students pursuing an Associate’s degree in Child Development, specifically aimed at supporting child care professionals in the Permian Basin.

Scholarships may be awarded to caregivers meeting the following eligibility requirements:

  • must be a part of the child care management services program (CCMS) earning less than $15 per hour
  • 18 years of age or older
  • a Texas resident
  • AND a U.S. citizen or a noncitizen authorized to work in the United States
