Despite facing numerous challenges, Daniela has managed to balance full-time work, parenting, and academics to create a brighter future for her family.

A graduate of New Tech Odessa High School, Daniela initially started a career as a Certified Nurse Assistant. Shortly after, she married and began raising her family. However, following a divorce and the end of another relationship, Daniela found herself at a crossroads.

“What do I want to do with the rest of my life?” she asked herself.

Turning to therapy for support, Daniela credits her counselor for helping her navigate her journey of self-discovery. “My therapist helped me help myself. The Hispanic culture doesn’t really open up to therapy or see the benefits of it, but it has been a tremendous help to me. I’ve learned so much about myself,” she shared.

Inspired by her personal growth and the support she received, Daniela decided to pursue a degree in psychology to help others in the Hispanic community overcome similar obstacles.

In the fall of 2022, she began her studies at Odessa College. Online classes provided the flexibility she needed to juggle her demanding schedule. Daniela also received invaluable guidance and encouragement from her Life Coach, Briana Urias, who regularly checked in to ensure her success.

Now, Daniela is ready to take the next step. She will transfer to the University of Texas Permian Basin (UTPB) to pursue her bachelor’s degree in psychology. Her ultimate goal is to earn a master’s degree and use her experiences to provide her children with a better life while making a difference in her community.

“I’m doing this, I’m committed – I am going on until I get my master’s degree,” Daniela affirmed.
