When Sasha Lazcano graduated from high school, college wasn’t part of the plan she had envisioned for her future. She imagined a life centered on marriage, family, and building a happy home. But life took a different path, one that challenged her, reshaped her priorities, and ultimately led her back to the classroom with a renewed sense of purpose. 

After becoming a single mother following a divorce, Sasha worked a variety of jobs to support herself and her son. Her determination led her to a position as an administrative assistant at Medical Center Hospital, where she later transitioned into the emergency room. Surrounded by healthcare professionals and the fast-paced environment of patient care, she began to consider a future in nursing. 

In 2017, Sasha enrolled at Odessa College, starting with her basics while searching for the right career path. Like many students, her journey was not linear. After changing her major twice and feeling uncertain about her direction, she made the difficult decision to step away from school for four years to focus on her personal life and gain clarity. 

During that time, her life changed in profound ways. She remarried and experienced three back-to-back pregnancies, growing her family and reshaping her perspective. Motherhood became her greatest teacher: instilling resilience, strengthening her time management skills, and reinforcing the importance of showing up even on the hardest days. 

Fitness had always been a passion, but after motherhood, it became something deeper, a way to reconnect with herself and rebuild both physically and mentally. That realization gave her a clear sense of direction. Sasha returned to Odessa College with a new goal: to pursue a degree in kinesiology and build a career centered around helping others improve their health and well-being. 

As a part-time student balancing the demands of family life, her journey has not been easy. But with the support of her family she has remained consistent and committed to her long-term goals. Now, after eight years of perseverance, Sasha is graduating with her associate degree. 

She plans to continue her education by pursuing a bachelor’s degree in kinesiology, expanding her knowledge so she can better serve her future clients. 

Sasha Lazcano’s story is a powerful reminder that the path to success is rarely a straight line. Through life’s unexpected turns, she found not only her purpose, but the strength to pursue it.
