Start a Career on the Road

Prepare for a career as a professional truck driver through Odessa College's Truck Driving Academy. Our program combines classroom instruction, hands-on training, and behind-the-wheel experience to help students develop the skills needed to pursue a Class A Commercial Driver License (CDL).

Hands-On Training

Complete up to 200 hours of training in five weeks.

Career Preparation

Prepare for the Class A CDL test and a career in commercial truck driving.

  • Duration: 5 Weeks
  • Class Size: 8 Min/17 Max
  • Cost: $4,500 
    • Note: FAFSA does not cover this program
  • Down payment: $2,250
  • Hours: up to 200 hours

Students receive training in:

  • Tractor-trailer operation
  • Basic street and highway driving
  • Behind-the-wheel skills
  • Vehicle operation and safety
  • Pre-trip inspections
  • Commercial driving practices
  • Department of Transportation requirements

The goal is to give students the knowledge and practical experience needed to safely operate a commercial motor vehicle and pursue employment in the trucking industry.

Applicants must show proof of the following to apply for for the Truck Driving Academy Program. 

  • High school diploma, GED, or pass an assessment test
  • 18 years of age or older

Required documentation to register:

  • Valid Texas Driver’s License
  • Proof of citizenship or evidence of Lawful Presence - examples:
    • Birth Certificate
    • Passport
  • Social Security Card
  • Drug screen
  • Current DOT physical
  • High school diploma, GED, transcript or pass and assessment test from Odessa College testing center

Adult Day Classes

Classes are offered in Odessa and Pecos.

Times: 7:30am-5:30pm Monday-Thursday; Friday 8:00am-1:00pm
