This January 2025, Odessa College proudly launched its Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) program — a milestone moment for both the College and the nursing professionals of the Permian Basin and West Texas. Designed as an RN to BSN pathway, the program empowers registered nurses to further their education, strengthen their leadership skills, and deepen their impact on patient care.
“I’m beyond excited to celebrate the launch of the Odessa College RN to BSN program,” shared BSN Program Director Mayowa Otuada. “The Permian Basin and West Texas are filled with incredible registered nurses (RN) who have not yet earned their BSN degree, and this program was built with them in mind. My goal is to help our RNs return to school, earn their BSN degree, and support them in taking the next step toward graduate school. Together, we will advance the practice of nursing through increased education of our workforce by equipping nurses with leadership skills, evidence-based knowledge, and a heart for compassionate care so we can improve health outcomes for the people in our community.”
Now, Odessa College is preparing for the next important step: initial accreditation by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN). As part of the process, ACEN will conduct a site visit to review the program — and the College is inviting the community to take part.
📅 Community Meeting: Wednesday, September 10, 2025
🕑 Time: 2:00–2:30 p.m.
📍 Location: Wood Health & Sciences Building, 201 W. University Blvd, Odessa, TX 79764

With its 12-month, fully online coursework (plus two in-person clinical experiences in Texas), the Odessa College RN to BSN program is designed for working nurses with an associate degree or diploma in nursing. The curriculum focuses on leadership, compassionate holistic care, evidence-based practice, and interprofessional communication — equipping graduates to meet the needs of an ever-changing healthcare landscape.
This site visit is more than an accreditation step — it’s a celebration of the future of nursing in West Texas. We hope you’ll join us in showing your support.
