ODESSA, TX - Odessa College announced today that Coach Jay DeSoto accepted the position as the interim head baseball coach for the OC Wranglers baseball program.

OC Athletic Director Wayne Baker said, “Jay is the kind of coach every program hopes to find: energetic and fully committed to the student-athlete experience. His baseball IQ is exceptional, and he’s a tireless recruiter with a real passion for the game. Jay stepped up in a big way when our program needed leadership over this last year. This year’s district championship, in part, is a testament to his vision, work ethic and ability to bring out the best in his team. We’re proud to have him leading Odessa College Baseball.”

The new coach said, “I’m incredibly grateful and honored to lead Odessa College Baseball. This program means so much to me. I love this game, I love this community, and I care deeply about the men who wear this jersey. My commitment is to keep building on our momentum, develop great players and even better people, and do everything we can to make our way to Grand Junction. Being a Wrangler isn’t just about baseball. It’s about pride, purpose, and giving back. I’m all in.”

Coach DeSoto has served as the assistant coach at Odessa College for the past two years – working under two different head coaches. He served as the lead recruiter and recruited two, talented rosters for Wrangler baseball. He has an associate’s degree and bachelor’s degree in psychology from College of Southern Nevada and University of Texas Permian Basin, respectively. He leverages those degrees to develop strong relationships with recruits, players and their families.
