Odessa, TX — Odessa College has been notified by the United States Marine Band that their upcoming concert in Odessa, originally scheduled for Friday, October 24, has been cancelled due to the federal government shutdown.
In a statement, representatives from the Marine Band shared that because Congress adjourned without passing government appropriations, they are obligated to cancel all official performances until funding is restored. The next Congressional vote on appropriations is not expected until Monday, October 20, which falls too close to the scheduled performance date for the Odessa concert to proceed as planned.
Odessa College extends its deep appreciation to the U.S. Marine Band for their communication and to all community members who planned to attend.
“We are truly disappointed that the Marine Band will be unable to perform in Odessa this month,” said John Carroll, Odessa College Director of Bands. “Their concerts are always an extraordinary experience, and we hope to welcome them back to our community on a future tour.”
The Marine Band has indicated that all registered patrons will receive a Ticketleap notification regarding the cancellation.
“We appreciate the community’s understanding and continued support,” said Carroll. “We look forward to future opportunities to collaborate with this world-class ensemble.”
