COLLECTION DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM

The LRC realizes that faculty and staff input is essential in developing well-rounded collections and encourages full participation in this area. Each department has the responsibility to continually assess and evaluate its collection to support student use and research needs. Faculty members can alert library staff to updates and new developments in the field which need coverage.

Departmental Allocation for the LRC Collection

Each department receives an allocation from LRC funds to support departmental acquisitions for their subject area within the collection. Questions relating to collection development should be referred to the Technical Services Director, Susan Elliott, at extension 6642.

The LRC's technical services staff periodically sends ads, flyers, catalogs, and other ordering information to department chairs to aid them in selecting materials for purchase. Books in Print database is available online through the LRC web site to identify current titles available for purchase in any subject area. Call the Technical Services Department for a printed bibliography.

How to Order

The staff accepts purchase recommendations via webform, email, campus mail, telephone, fax, or office visit. Please prioritize orders and include all known data, such as author, title, ISBN (International Standard Book Number), publisher, and date published.

The LRC asks that the LRC funds allotted to each department be expended by March 1st of each year. After this date, all unexpended moneys must revert to the LRC general material account in order to guarantee receipt on materials and expenditures of funds by the end of the fiscal year. For more information about book orders, call Debbie Lea at extension 6643 and for media orders, call Wayne Wunsch at extension 6650.

Preview Videos Prior to Purchase

Arrangements may be made for video previews by calling the Technical Services Department. Due to copyright restrictions, previews cannot be used for classroom teaching and are subject to availability. Wayne Wunsch will assist you at extension 6650.
