President’s report

President Jordan shared a proposal for Senate Reapportionment (see attached). There will be 11 senators for 11 departments; each Senator will average 11 constituents. The senator for nursing will have 18 constituents due to the size of the ADN and Vocational Nursing programs. Senator Hand motioned to accept the plan and Senator Hellinghausen provided a second for that motion. It passed unanimously. The reapportionment will take effect fall 2007.

President Jordan also advised that elections for new officers will be held at the April 12 meeting.   Any Senator wishing to run for office should make her/his intentions known before then so the slate of officers can be available to vote on at the April meeting.

Committee Reports

Evaluation committee – Senator Hand reported that dean-to-chair evaluation instruments will go to deans after spring break and that the committee is discussing adjunct evaluations; classroom observation of adjunct faculty is still in the discussion stage. Dr. Williams has not formally approved of the new evaluation processes nor instruments at this time.

New Business

IT communication with faculty. Senator Philpott suggested that a calendar of IT maintenance be developed and distributed to faculty so that they can better plan for classes. It would be especially helpful for web instructors to know when the  system will be down so that students can be informed and assignment due dates scheduled accordingly.   President Jordan said he would meet with David Carson to see if this was feasible and if so, have him take the appropriate action.

Meeting adjourned at 2:55 PM
