President’s Report

President Jordan discussed current sick leave policy and prohibitions against donating unused hours to co – workers who may need them and accruing hours beyond the currently set limit. He deferred to Senator Graves regarding her research of other community colleges in Texas to see how their unused sick time is handled.  Of those contacted, 11 have responded to her request for information. She and Senator Rogers are awaiting additional data. President Jordon and the executive committee will meet with Dr. Williams about reinstating some old OC policies.

President Jordan reports that he has asked Amy Hendrick to take the smoking policy committee options to Dr. Williams for a decision. As for OC’s academic calendar, President Jordan advises that we are only two days off the state average for community colleges.

President Jordan wants to see OC offer memorial cards with dedications on the back side for $10.00 each and these funds to go toward student scholarships.

President Jordan will invite Dr. Williams to meet with all faculty for a Q & A session ASAP and will advise of date once it is set. He encouraged senators to urge their constituents to attend.

Committee Reports:

Evaluation Committee - Senator Hand reports that the Evaluation Committee continues its work; September 30 is the deadline for departments to submit their particular items for evaluation. Work on Downward evaluations is occurring.

Old Business:

Parking – slow progress here. Amy Hendrick needs to meet with Al Fonseca.

Other Business:

Senator Elliott reports that student cheating is a problem in her department and classes. Some of it is occurring on campus computers. President Jordan reminded Senators of the Student Handbook policy on cheating and that all faculty should have clear policies about cheating in her/his syllabi.
