called to order at 2:01 PM
President’s Report
President
Jordan discussed current sick leave policy and prohibitions against donating
unused hours to co – workers who may need them and accruing hours beyond the
currently set limit. He deferred to Senator Graves regarding her research of
other community colleges
in
President Jordan reports that he has asked Amy Hendrick to
take the smoking policy committee options to Dr. Williams for a decision. As
for OC’s academic calendar, President Jordan advises that we are only two days
off the state average for community colleges.
President Jordan wants to see OC offer memorial cards with
dedications on the back side for $10.00 each and these funds to go toward
student scholarships.
President Jordan will invite Dr. Williams to meet with all
faculty for a Q & A session ASAP and will advise of date once it is set. He
encouraged senators to urge their constituents to attend.
Committee Reports:
Evaluation Committee - Senator Hand reports that the
Evaluation Committee continues its work; September 30 is the deadline for
departments to submit their particular items for evaluation. Work on Downward
evaluations is occurring.
Old Business:
Parking – slow progress here. Amy Hendrick needs to meet
with Al Fonseca.
Other Business:
Senator
Elliott reports that student cheating is a problem in her department and
classes. Some of it is occurring on campus computers. President Jordan reminded
Senators of the Student Handbook policy on cheating and that all faculty should
have clear policies about cheating in her/his syllabi.
Intramurals
– Senator Philpott inquired about OC intramural activities. President Jordan
encouraged her to check with Student Activities about this.
Student
Award Ceremony – Senators were encouraged to work with the committee and the
new system and submit names of students for their academic achievements.
