The Use Of Computers, Internet & E-mail
Odessa College TRIO Programs are pleased to offer students access to the Learning and Technology Center. To gain access to the computer lab and its resources, all students must agree to comply with the rules below:
What is expected?
Students are responsible for appropriate behavior on the school's computer network just as they are in a classroom or in another one of the campus computer labs. Communications on the network are often public in nature. General school rules for behavior and communications apply. It is expected that users will comply with school standards and the specific rules set forth below. The use of the network is a privilege, not a right, and may be revoked if abused. The user is personally responsible for his/her actions in accessing and utilizing the school's computer resources. The students are advised never to access, keep, or send anything that they would not want the public to see.
What are the rules?
Privacy - Network storage areas are not private property! Network administrators may review communications to maintain system integrity and insure students are using the system responsibly.
Storage Capacity - Users are expected to remain within allocated disk space and delete e-mail or other material which take up excessive storage space. Please save all work on a disk. If you need a disk, ask a TRIO staff member to provide you one.
Illegal Copying - Students should never download or install any commercial software, shareware, or freeware onto network drives or disks. Nor should any programs or files be copied or removed from the lab computers.
Desktop Appearance - Do not alter, in any way, the appearance of the lab computers desktop. This includes wallpaper, adding or deleting shortcuts, changing the screen saver, or moving task bars to different areas of the desktop.
Inappropriate use, materials or language - No profane, abusive or impolite language should be used to communicate nor should materials be accessed which are not in line with the rules of school behavior. The computers are not to be used for chatting, Internet messaging, or listening to Internet radio. All of these uses take up valuable network resources as well as computers designated for academic purposes only. Should students encounter such material by accident, they should report it to a TRIO staff member immediately.
Guidelines
- Do not use a computer to harm other people or their work.
- Do not damage the computer or the network in any way.
- Do not interfere with the operation of the network by installing or uninstalling software, shareware, or freeware.
- Do not violate copyright laws.
- Do not send, view, or display crude, offensive, or explicit messages or pictures.
- Do not share passwords with others.
- Do not waste limited resources such as disk space or printing capacity.
- Prepare to be held accountable for your actions and for the loss of privileges if the Rules of Appropriate Use are violated.
USER AGREEMENT
As a user of the Learning and Technology Center, I agree to comply with the above stated rules and to use the network in a constructive manner.
