Policies
The Student Learning Center is designed to facilitate learning and
academic advancement. Students are expected to be actively engaged in
academic activities. Excessive visitation, disruptive behavior,
sleeping, or any other actions which disrupt the other patrons are
prohibited. Students who are not in the Center for academic purposes
will be asked to leave if they become disruptive.
Students exhibiting disruptive behavior are subject to having their slc access limited or denied.

The Student Learning Center works on the 3 Strike Rule:
- Strike 1: 1st verbal warning.
- Strike 2: 2nd verbal warning stating the next warning will result in removal.
- Strike 3: Student is asked to leave the Center for the remainder of the day.
Repeated offenses can result in lost access to the Center for extended periods. Major offenses are subject to campus disciplinary action and may result in permanent loss of Center privileges. Odessa College Student Learning Center reserves the right to discontinue services being offered to non-OC students with or without cause.
Student Learning Center Acceptable Use Policy
- Computers in the labs are for use by current Odessa College students. Please sign in and out at the front desk.
- Downloaded files must be saved to a floppy, zip disk, USB drive, or other removable media. Data stored on computers are erased when rebooted. All downloads and disks are automatically scanned for viruses.
- No food or drink allowed in labs. Food and drink is allowed in the tutoring center.
- Defacing or damaging of computer equipment, desks or chairs is not tolerated.
- The use of Peer-2-Peer (P2P) software or alike to share or download illegal software, music, movies, et cetera is ethically wrong and is not tolerated.
- The viewing of pornographic or obscene material is prohibited.
- The installation of Internet Service Provider (ISP) software is not possible or necessary we provide high speed internet access on all computers. It is still possible to access email from your ISP.
- Please be considerate of the persons working around you. Headphones are available for checkout.
- Please report any problems you may encounter with the equipment in the Student Learning Center to a Lab Assistant immediately.

Odessa College Computer Resources Acceptable Use Policy
Access to computer resources is essential to the pursuit and achievement of excellence in a modern community college. The privilege of using computer systems and software, as well as internal and external databases, is important to all members of the college community. The preservation of this privilege for the entire campus requires that each individual comply with the acceptable use policy outlined below. Any unauthorized, illegitimate, or other violation of this Acceptable Use Policy shall subject the violator to disciplinary or legal action by the college. The college reserves the right to terminate access and/or pursue stringent legal action in all matters on non-compliance.
For the purposes of this policy, computer resources are defined as any college or state owned mainframe, mini- or micro-computer, peripheral devices, software, voice, video, or data telecommunications systems, and/or any network facilities.
- Any use of computer resources for illegal purposes, or in support of illegal activities, is prohibited.
- Violation of software copyrights and/or licensing restrictions is illegal.
- All use of computer resources must be in support of education and research in the State of Texas and consistent with the purpose of the institution.
- Any use of computer resources for commercial purposes is prohibited.
- Any use of computer resources for product advertisement or political lobbying is prohibited.
- Any use of computer resources for the production, duplication, distribution, receipt and/or transmission of any material, which might be considered pornographic and/or obscene, is prohibited.
- No use of computer resources shall serve to disrupt the use of the resources by other users.
- All file sharing programs such as Kazaa, Bearshare and others are prohibited.
- All access accounts will be used only by the authorized owner of the account for the authorized purpose and in compliance with established computer security policies.
- The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act will be adhered to in all matters regarding campus records. Pursuant to the Electronic and Communications Privacy Act of 1986, USC 2510 et. seq., notice is hereby given that there are no facilities provided by this system for sending or receiving private or confidential electronic communications. DO NOT use this system for any communication for which the sender intends only the sender and the intended recipients) to read. At the very least, the operators of this system can review all communications transmitted.
- Any computer resource user, which traverses another network, may be subject to the acceptable use policy of that network.
- The college does not control and consequently cannot be responsible for the content of external networks.
- The College reserves the right to filter and scan for computer viruses on computer systems owned by the College or those connected to the College's network.
- Student computer resource users are bound by all other campus policies including, but not limited to, the Scholastic Dishonesty Policy and Discipline Code.
- Approval to set-up web pages on the College's website must first be approved by your Department Head/Division Dean and then access to the College's Web server is set-up by the Odessa College Webmaster. Call David Carson, Director of IT, at 335-6647 for details.
