Where Do I Start?
If you are enrolled in the class, complete the following steps:

  1. READ, READ, READ! Look around this site, read carefully, check out all the links. Eventually you will probably to choose to print off the most-used information.
  2. Please E-mail me the All About You information immediately so I'll know you are out there and who you are. I will be able to get new information to you as well.
  3. After you receive a class key, go to Online Discussion/Nicenet and follow the steps to sign on with www.Nicenet.org. Give your first and last name and make up a password that you will remember. The class name on Nicenet is CHILD PSYCH SP 2006.  The class key will be emailed to you when it's time for you to join the nicenet class during the week of orientation.
  4. Purchase your textbook from the Odessa College Bookstore (see Syllabus for more information). Print off the Test I Study Guide and start reading and studying.
  5. Plan to attend one of the orientation sessions, including a tour of the Odessa College Children's Center. Dates and times of the orientations are printed in the current schedule of classes and are posted on the Bulletin Board. Be sure to attend the lab tour, even if you will be doing your child observation at another preschool. Be sure that you have read your Lab Pack first.
  6. If you cannot come to the Odessa College Children's Center for your observation, start looking immediately for an approved preschool in your area. (See the Lab Pack for more information concerning the Department of Human Services, Child Care Licensing Division). Print off two copies of the Parental Permission Form, have them signed by a parent or guardian, and return one copy to me.
  7. All students should select a lab child and begin observing and note-taking no later than the second week of class. Read and understand your Lab Pack information thoroughly before you start observing so you will make the most efficient use of your time. I suggest that you print out the Lab Pack, or at least the "Outline for Your Case Study" at the end of the Lab Pack, and take it with you when you observe.
  8. If you need to take your four tests off-campus, begin making your contacts and requests. (See Testing Information.)
  9. READ, READ, READ! Check out the information in this site completely so that you have a good understanding of where we're going and what we're going to be doing. Then, if you have questions you can e-mail me, phone me, or make an appointment to meet in my office.
