Welcome to Mathematical Statistics! This sheet will tell you about the course, including subject matter, homework, quizzes, exams and term grade. Almost all of your questions about the course can be answered by reading this handout. If anything is unclear, please do not hesitate to ask for clarification. Good Luck!!!

Required Textbook: Elementary Statistics by Weiss, 7th Edition, Boston: Addison Wesley Publishing Co.

Technology:

Online students must have a valid e-mail address to register for computer software. All work is done through the internet, so you need internet access. If you do not have access to the internet, you may use the computers in the math lab. This course will work best using Internet Explorer.

Please note that I will be checking in on your progress weekly. This includes checking the time you are spending in each section, the homework you have completed, and the exam status.

Homework

Homework will be assigned for each section. There are due dates for completion of the homework, which will ensure that you complete the course on time. These are listed in the due dates section under the Course Information link in MyMathLab. The calendar included in our course website is a useful tool for keeping you up-to-date on the latest assignments. Your two lowest homework grades will be dropped.

Communication

Communication plays a vital role in an online students success. Communication methods for this course include announcements, email, and discussion boards. You are required to participate in the discussion boards. Each student should submit 15 meaningful threads in the discussion boards. These can either be new discussions, or they can be replies to other discussion. Idle chitchat and non-meaningful posts will not count towards your grade. Any emails I receive will be answered within 2 business days.

Exams

The midterm exams are available through its due date. After the due date has passed, the exams will be reviewed for partial credit. The see a list of the due dates, go to the Course Information link in MyMathLab. The final exam is comprehensive and will be proctored. You must present a picture ID before taking the final exam. If you are an OC student, you will take your final exam in the Math department. The final exam is comprehensive and will be due by 8:30 PM on December 10 (Wednesday). If you do not take the final exam, you will receive an F for the course.

Prerequisites

MATH 0375 passed with a C or better, or an adequate placement exam score.

Tutoring

Tutoring is available through Developmental Studies and in the OC Math Lab. The hours for the math lab are Mon-Thurs 8:30 AM – 8:30 PM and Friday from 8:30 A M – 1:00 PM .

Back-Up Plan

You must have a back-up plan for this course in case your primary computer fails during the semester. Please detail the location of the two computers in your student information sheet.
