“Read Around Texas”
This Summer (May 18th – August 17th)

On May 18th start your summer reading by heading “Deep in the Heart of Texas” and read around Texas.  Decide how many miles (pages) you want to travel this summer and get started reading!  Come by the library and pick up your travel bag.  Choose your own subject matter, but AT LEAST ONE of your books must come from the LRC collection!  Tell us where you are headed so we can post everyone’s trip on the travel board.  Here are just a few suggestions to get you started.  Remember miles = pages!

For the long-distance travelers:
Perimeter of Texas including all meanderings of the rivers and coastline – 3,822 miles
Perimeter of Texas – including only larger river bends and the great arc of coastline – 2843 miles
Longest straight line distance from the Panhandle to below Brownsville – 801 miles
Distance from east bend in the Sabine River to western bulge of the Rio Grande – 773 miles

OR take a river trip:
Rio Grande – 1254 miles
Sabine River, Lake and Pass – 292 miles
Red River – 726 miles

Maybe you prefer to hike through mountains:
Guadalupe Peak – 8,749 feet (1.7 miles)                    Bush Mountain – 8,631 feet (1.634 miles)
Shumard Peak – 8,615 feet (1.631 miles)                   Bartlett Peak – 8,508 feet (1.611 miles)
