Importing Old E-Mail into Outlook 2000 for Windows 98

  1. Open Outlook 2000.

  2. When prompted for a profile choose Exchange.

  3. Click OK.

  4. After the program starts click File > Import and Export...

  5. Select Import from another program of file and click Next.

  6. Scroll down and choose Personal Folder File (.pst) and click Next.

  7. Locate file path and highlight the text, press the right arrow key (near the numeric keypad on the right side of keyboard) If you see the filename “backup.pst” this must be to be changed to “outlook.pst” (pictured below).

    Note: You can copy/paste this path into the “file to import” box also C:\Program Files\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook\outlook.pst

  8. Ensure the file path is specifying outlook.pst and click Next.

  9. Make sure that your display appears the same as below (except blue numbers) and click Next.

  10. The "Import" progress indicator will start. (this may take a while depending on the speed of your machine and how many files you have in your mail folders.)

  11. After the progress indicator closes the file have been successfully imported.
