UNIT 4 

Web Activity

Go to the web site of both the Texas Democratic and Texas Republican Parties and write a paper covering the following topics:

  1. the issue stands/platform and priorities and goals of each party.

  2. compare and contrast their issue stands where ever possible

  3. YOUR conclusions: which party would you support because it comes closest to your own political views?

  4. discuss the issue stands of the party in #3 and on which issues you agree and which issues you disagree

  5. based on what you learned about both parties, what types of voters/groups/organizations do you expect to support each party ?

      (You can also use the Maxwell & Crain textbook for an additional source of information)

Web Activity

Go the Texas Legislature web page at www.Capitol.state.tx.us and type in your zip code to determine who your state senator and state representative are.   Then go to the web page of BOTH your state senator and state representative and write a paper/personal profile on EACH of them, covering the following topics:

1.      prior political experience

2.      length of service in the Texas Legislature

3.      political party affiliation

4.      committee assignments & what the responsibilities/legislative issues of each committee is

5.      important legislation they have sponsored and/or supported

6.      their stands on the important political issues

7.      any other interesting or relevant information you learned

8.      YOUR conclusions on what you have learned:

a.      what were you impressed or surprised about what you learned?

b.      Were you disappointed in anything you learned about your state senator and state representative?

c.      Would you support and vote for either one when they run for re-election?—give reasons for your answer.
