Invention Techniques are the first step in the writing process.  Before you can organize your ideas or write a paper that includes all of your ideas, you have to be able to get those ideas down on paper.  Remember, even though the writing process is circular, and you are constantly coming up with new ideas, you still need to have a place to begin, and these techniques will help you find it.

The third power point presentation you can view is over Introductory Paragraphs.  Make sure you remember that whichever type of introduction you choose, you must make sure it directly relates to the body of your paper.

This next link will allow you to work on creating a strong thesis statement.  Make sure that once you visit the links in the order they appear: The Thesis Statement will give you basic information about thesis statements and three questions you MUST be able to answer yes to in order to have a strong thesis statement.  Practice 1 will help you recognize the most common mistakes writer's make in their thesis statements.  Practice 2 will help you create narrow, easily handled thesis statements.
