Odessa College, one of 72 successful applicants of 429 submissions, was awarded $1,751, 178 to fund a Welding Training Center .
The Welding Training Center will provide free, fast-track, customized, non-credit training to novice student and adult welders as well as incumbent workers. Odessa College, along with local welding industry representatives, Permain Basin Workforce Development Board, and the Ector County Independent School Distrcit proposed establishing the Center to address the shortage of qualified welders in the workplace, a primary concern of local and regional industry representatices.
The Center will train up to 30 students per eight week training session-four daytime and four evening training sessions each year, as well as customized training. The three-year grant will include one year of contruction/remodel and two years of welding training. |
