Visiting the Center

The Odessa College Children's Center provides daytime care for some 50 to 60 children. The facility is open to children of students, OC faculty and staff, and children from the community. The Children's Center accepts children from six weeks to pre-kindergarten. It is open year-round from 7:30 AM until 5:30 PM Monday through Friday, except during regular college holidays. While providing a child care service to the community, the Children's Center also serves as a learning laboratory for students in the Odessa College Child Development program and in Child Psychology classes.

The Children's Program...
...is planned to meet the needs of individual children six weeks to pre-kindergarten of age in all areas of development: social, emotional, intellectual, physical and aesthetic. Activities are planned that will enable the child to gain a positive self-concept and sense of independence. The day is planned with interesting activities that will stimulate the children to question, explore and learn. The activities are non-competitive with an emphasis on developing skills in interpersonal relationships. Specific curriculum areas include development of large and small muscles; creative art experiences; language arts experiences, including vocabulary building, listening and speaking activities; social and dramatic play; music and movement exercises; cooking and other science/math related experiences and social awareness.

We accept school-age children (ages kindergarden to 12 years) during the summer months on a first-come first-serve basis. Call for prices and start date.

Enrollment
The center maintains a waiting list for all those interested in having their children attend the Children's Center. One can get on the waiting list by coming by the center to fill out a waiting list form. Children are admitted to the center on a first-come first-serve basis, regardless of race, sex, color, national origin, age or handicap. Certain enrollment forms must be completed before a child is admitted to the center. No drop-in arrangements are available.

Location
The Odessa College Children's Center is located on the Odessa College campus in the Sedate Hall building, between the Composite Technology building and Electronics Technology building, which is on University Blvd., east of the Sports Center.

Visiting the Children's Center
Please feel free to visit the center when you can. Two large observation rooms are located in the center: one between the infant's and toddler's rooms and one between the younger and the older children's classrooms. These are available so that you can observe your child in class.
