Work Study & Non-Work Study  (See the current list of departments and available positions below). The procedures for obtaining a job are listed below the available positions. Students earn minimum wage and can work up to 17 hours per week. Students must work in order to receive payment. Checks are issued the 25th day of each month and earnings are taxable.  Most student jobs can be arranged around class schedules.

College Work Study (CWS)
is a federal or state based program offering students an opportunity to earn financial aid
through work. CWS is available to undergraduate students who demonstrate financial
need.
Students must be enrolled in at least 6 credit hours and have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.0. Application is made by completing the FAFSA

Texas College Work Study Program
is similar to the CWS program and is also based on financial need. However, it is not
open to athletes on scholarship funds. Application is made by completing the FAFSA.
Students must be enrolled in at least 6 hours.

NON-WORK STUDY

obs are available in some campus departments. These part-time jobs are not need-
related and the department has considerable flexibility since wages are paid from their budget. Students must be enrolled in at least 6 credit hours and have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.0. Contact Student Financial Services for more information.

  • Children’s Center – General Office
    duties, helping with the Center helping
    with the children, and other duties as
    assigned:   
    *
      The student must be willing and able to
        work with small children;

    *   Pass a background check and get
         fingerprinted ($44.20)
    *    Be CPR/First Aide Certified ($25.00);

    *    Attend an 8-hour pre-service training
         ($15.00).
     
  • Children's Center - Head Start Tutor -
    works mornings.
  • Computer Science – Assist students in computer lab; must have COSC 1301, 1401 or ITSC 1401; strong knowledge of Windows XP & Office 2003
  • Computer Services  - Installation of computers/software
  • Office Systems & Technology (Spring semester 09) -  General Office duties (word processing, filing, etc.) must be dependable and have very good computer skills.
  • Resource Development – must be dependable, have computer skills (word processing) and general office skills (filing, answering phone, etc)
     
  • Ronald McDonald House - at Medical Center Hospital -  taking care of the Family room and signing in families who may come in to relax.
     
  • Odessa LINKS -  Light accounting work
     
  • Veteran's Affairs (Student Union Bldg) - Need very dependable person to manage spreadsheets and inventories.  Great job for someone who likes to work independently.




     

 

 



 

 

                                     

 

 

                                                        

                                                   

  

 

 

  • Odessa College Ranch (near Gardendale) – Ranch work –  
  • Physical Plant - Various positions - Motor Pool, Construction, Painting, General Maintenance, Grounds,etc.

Procedure to obtain either a Work Study or Non-Work Study position:

1.                  Fill out a job application in Career Services (in the Help Center across the
hall from the Financial Aid office). If you have done that then you should check
with Career Services (335-6835) to ensure your application is on file.

2.         On the application you will circle whether you are Work Study or Non-
Work Study
then  Financial Aid will verify it, if you are Work Study.

3.         You will browse the list of departments that have openings (See lists
below) and select 1 or more departments that you are interested in and would
like more information on the open positions.  It is your responsibility to check
the listings and apply for positions.

4.         Check with Career Services to get more information and contact information for the open positions within the department(s) you have selected.

5.           You decide on the position for which you wish to apply.

6.           You will be given an informal interview by Career Services

7.           Ensure you get a copy of your application and the contact person’s
name/phone #
in the department where you wish to work.

8.           You will set up an appointment to meet with the contact person.

9.           Once you are hired ensure that you fill out a “Payroll information form”
(obtained from Career Services).

10.         It is your responsibility to let Career Services know when you get hired. 

Please don’t wait for someone to call you about open positions.  If you want a position
you must aggressively seek out the positions.  You can start the process now and
secure a position.
