Online Course Checklist |
If you are enrolled in an online course, or considering taking an online (web-based) course, please read the following information.
Important Qualities of a Successful Online Student:
Must be self-reliant and self-motivated.
Must have good self-discipline.
Must have good, basic computer skills.
Must have the ability to read carefully and to follow written instructions.
Odessa College online courses require that you have access to the Internet. You may have your own Internet Service Provider (ISP) , or the use of one through one of the campus computer labs. Although the campus computer labs are here to facilitate your success in your coursework, the labs have strict guidelines concerning their use. The LRC labs on the third floor have lab assistants scheduled each day to assist you. Upon using the labs for the first time, please check with the assistants in regards to the policy of Odessa College lab usage.
The following criteria would apply to the individual course and method of instruction.
Basic User Requirements:
Ability to access the Internet using an ISP or through the computer lab.
Proficient in using a web browser.
Proficient sending and receiving e-mail.
Intermediate User Requirements:
Meet Basic requirements plus:
Proficient in using a word processing program.
Proficient at sending attachments via e-mail.
Proficient at downloading software or documents.
Proficient at completing and submitting online tests.
Advanced User Requirements:
Meet Intermediate Requirements.
Meet additional special requirements that are specific for a particular class.
Pay special attention to the hardware or software requirements.

Online course materials, and books are available through the Odessa College Bookstore, 432-335-6330 or email Sammie Molder for more information. If you live at a distance and cannot travel to the campus, inquire about payment method and mailing.
Required course materials and textbooks are listed on each course's syllabus. All course materials and texts, unless otherwise specified, are required for the first day of class.
Check your syllabus to find out when the first day of your class(es) will be.
Your instructor may require, immediately upon your enrolling in the course, that you email them with certain information. This may consist of your full name, email address, phone numbers you may be reached at, what type of system you use, what type of software program (i.e. Word, WordPerfect, Claris, etc.) you use, length of time you have used a computer, length of time you have used the World Wide Web, and possibly a short bio of your hobbies, likes and dislikes. This information provides the instructor with a general knowledge of his/her students.
