Residency Information
Assessment
of tuition and fees is based on the residency classification of
the student. At Odessa College a student's residence status for
tuition purposes will fall into one of three categories (in district,
out of district, out of state). The determination of student's legal
residence is made according to guidelines pursuant to Title II, Texas Education Code and Rules and Regulations established by
the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board. Living in the area
solely for the purpose of attending college does not meet residency
requirements. Students may petition reclassification once residency
guidelines have been met. The student is responsible for notifying
the Registrar's Office of any change of residency.
In District
Students who are eighteen (18) years of age or older must be
a Texas resident for the twelve (12) months prior to enrollment and
a resident of Ector County for the six (6) months prior to enrollment
to be considered in-district students. In the case of students younger
than eighteen (18), the parents or legal guardian must meet the
same criteria.
Out of District
Students eighteen (18) years or older who have not lived within
Ector County six (6) months prior to registration, but who have
been a resident of Texas at least twelve (12) months prior to registration,
are considered to be out-of-district students. In the case of students
younger than eighteen (18), the parents or legal guardian must meet
the same criteria.
Out of State
Anyone who has not lived in Texas for the past year is considered
an out-of-state resident. When students are younger than eighteen
(18), the parent or legal guardian's residence determines residency
status. Most foreign students (anyone who is not a U.S. citizen
or legal permanent resident) are considered out-of-state residents
regardless of the length of time in Ector County and Texas.
Note: Students with 170 or more semester hours of college courses from
Texas public institutions of higher education may be subject to
out-of-state tuition rates.
