Testing
Requirements & Exemptions
All students who enter a public institution of higher
education must meet the testing requirements for reading,
writing and mathematics skills prior to enrollment in
college level classes unless they are exempted based
on a number of factors.
Odessa College provides and administers the ASSET test
FREE to students who are not exempt from placement testing. The
ASSET is equivalent to the THEA, COMPASS and ACCUPLACER
tests. The high school counselor at the student’s school
will evaluate students to see who is and is not exempt.
Students will be provided one copy of their scores. These
should be copied and sent to the college they are interested
in attending. If scores are lost, students may contact
the OC Testing Center to receive a copy for a small fee
